Durham Oyster River Forest BioBlitz - Sunday, May 17 from 6:30AM - 3:00PM

BioBlitz Poster

Durham’s Land Stewardship Subcommittee is having its first “BioBlitz”, a citizen science project that sets a specific time frame and area and then uses volunteer groups (led by scientists and field experts) to find and document as many plant and wildlife species as they can.

The event will be held on Sunday May 17th, 2026 at the Oyster River Forest & Spruce Hole Bog Conservation property on Packers Falls Road in Durham, from 6:30am to 3:00pm, rain or shine!

Volunteers may attend for part or all of the day; children are welcome with adult supervision. No experience is necessary, just bring your phone, camera, curiosity, and enthusiasm!

Why a BioBlitz? The data the volunteers collect will document the biodiversity and create a data base that other scientists can access.

The event will encourage environmental stewardship and offer a chance to learn more about our local natural environment. Categories to be highlighted will include insects, butterflies, trees, native meadow plants, fungi & lichen, birds, bog plants, and invasives. Along the way, we will note the impact of invasives on the local environment.
