Downtown Durham Parking Pilot Program
CORE DOWNTOWN SHORT-TERM PILOT – begins 4/22/2024 through 12/31/2026
To better serve our downtown businesses for customer shopping and visits:
Short-term parking: (Main Street – business side only, Jenkins Court, Madbury Road from Main Street to Pettee Brook, Bobcat Corner Lot – University Market(s)).
Meters Enforced 8AM – 5PM.
FREE parking after 5PM and on Saturday's and Sunday’s in Bobcat Corner Lot (formerly University Market Lot).
24 HOUR PERMIT PARKING PILOT – begins 1/1/2026 through 12/31/2026
Permits are sold for 24-hour parking, 7 days a week, for two lots – 66 Main Street and Dennison Road. Permit holders are not guaranteed any specific spot, but may park in either of those locations with their permit displayed. Permits are valid from January through June, and July through December.
BUSINESS PERMIT PILOT – begins 1/1/2026 through 12/31/2026
Permits issued to downtown business owners have changed. Permits are no longer valid in the 66 Main Street Lot – at any time. Permit holders can now park in the following locations when a business permit hanger is displayed:
- Pettee Brook Metered Lot – first row closest to Pettee Brook Lane
- Pettee Brook Permit Lot – as signed and on the south side only
- Bobcat Corner Lot (University Market Lot) - two rows closest to Pettee Brook Lane
- Cowell Drive
- Madbury Road – east side
- Madbury Road – west side from Garrison Ave to Madbury Commons entrance
- Woodman Road – north side only between Madbury Road and Dennison Road
- Garrison Avenue Extension
- Strafford Avenue – north side only

There will be no changes in any of the long-term parking areas.
Please note that overnight parking is not allowed anywhere downtown or municipal lots.
***DEPOT ROAD PARKING PERMITS FOR THE 2025-2026 ACADEMIC YEAR ARE SOLD OUT***

Downtown Enforcement Hours:
Monday – Friday, 8AM – 8PM
Saturdays, 10AM-4PM
NO Overnight Parking Nightly 1AM – 6AM

Appeals must be submitted within 14 days of issuance of ticket. Appeals submitted after that date will not be approved.
Please allow 24 hours for all tickets to be updated online.
Parking rates and hours vary throughout town, so please be sure to check signage.
