About the Land Stewardship Subcommittee

The Land Stewardship Subcommittee began as the Stewardship Plans Subcommittee, a subcommittee of the Conservation Commission. The subcommittee used a grant to hire Ellen Snyder, Ibis Wildlife Consulting, and have her write stewardship plans for four properties: Doe Farm, Wagon Hill, Longmarsh Preserve, and the Weeks lot.

After the plans were accepted by the Town Council, the focus became stewardship of the properties. The Conservation Commission realized that because different groups had primary responsibility for different town properties, and because of the diverse interests and potential uses of those properties, it was difficult for any one group to effectively steward them all. Subsequently, the Land Stewardship Subcommittee was formed with representatives from the Parks & Recreation Committee, the Agricultural Commission, the Conservation Commission and the Trustees of the Trust Funds.
