Town of Durham - Firefighter/EMT Job Opportunity

FIREFIGHTER/EMT
The Town of Durham is hiring for the position of firefighter/EMT. We are currently accepting applications to hire one firefighter/EMT in the fall of 2025 and two additional anticipated firefighter/EMT positions in 2026. The Durham Fire Department embraces the values of integrity, respect, professionalism, and customer service, and welcomes all who share these values to apply.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Firefighter I pro-board certification
- Basic EMT certification through the National Registry (NREMT)
- Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Firefighter II pro-board certification
- Advanced EMT certification through the National Registry (NREMT)
- College degree with course work in related field.
Applicants must meet the requirements of the NH Code of Administrative Rules PART Fire 701 (Mandatory Hiring Standards). This includes psychological, medical, and background pre-employment screening. Lateral transfer candidates are encouraged to apply and must meet PART Fire 703 (Transfers).
Within the first year of employment, candidates must successfully obtain Firefighter II pro-board certification (if not certified at time of hiring); CDL-B driver’s license with tanker endorsement; and complete an intensive probationary training program.
Compensation:
The 2025 base wage schedule for the position ranges from $51,057 to $71,772, commensurate with experience and NREMT certification level, plus educational incentives and a competitive benefits package.
