FIRE DEPARTMENT ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT 

The Town of Durham is hiring a full-time fire department administrative assistant to join our team of talented and dedicated employees. The Durham Fire Department embraces the values of integrity, respect, professionalism, and customer service, and welcomes all who share these values to apply. 

Under the supervision of the administrative assistant to the fire chief, the fire department administrative assistant is responsible for acting as the primary contact to receive visitors and callers to the fire station and supporting administrative functions of the fire department. This is an in-person position. This posting is not meant to be inclusive of all job duties or qualification requirements. Please see job description for further details.
 
Qualifications:

•    Associate’s degree in business management, accounting, office administration, or related field preferred and three (3) years of related work experience, preferably in a municipal environment. Each additional year of work experience may be substituted for one (1) year of formal education.  

•    Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, at the college level. Proper use of vocabulary, grammar, spelling, business writing, and letter composition required.

•    High level of attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to prioritize work to complete multiple projects within specified deadlines. Critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills. Professionalism and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

•    Advanced Microsoft computer application skills (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc). Graphic and data presentation skills. Familiarity with website and social media maintenance desired.

•    Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team.    

•    Applicant must successfully pass pre-employment psychological and background screening.

Compensation:

The starting hourly pay for the position ranges from $27.02 to $30.70 commensurate with experience.  This is a full-time, non-union position, and includes a competitive benefits package.
