Welcome New Businesses
Listed as the oldest family farm in the U.S., Emery Farm has been in existence since 1660. The farm stand, while not as old as the farm itself, has been around since the 1970’s offering seasonal fruits, vegetables and other assorted treats. As the popularity of the farm stand grew, ideas for new offerings grew along with it. Eventually, the original farm stand just wasn’t going to meet the needs of the current owner, Holly Philbrick. This is Holly’s fourth season at the farm, and her vision for the Emery Farm Market & Café has finally come to fruition.
Most businesses start out with a written business plan and a good bit of industry expertise. Even then, success is not a guarantee. Sweetened Memories, which recently expanded into a beautifully renovated space on Jenkins Court, managed to find success with little professional training, and no written plan. However, the owners Kathy and Alaina did have a lot of natural talent, the motivation to learn, and a determination to create amazing cakes.
