ABOUT THIS PROPERTY:

The Willey parcel (Map 19 Lot 6-5), located easterly of Dame Road, is landlocked and is approximately 20 acres. It was conveyed to the Town on 22 June 1959 by a Tax Deed (BK 704 PG 41). The deed does not specify a purpose for the property. In the early 1990s, Durham resident and Conservation Commission member John Hatch prepared an informal boundary survey and sketch of the Willey property. The Nature Conservancy conserved the abutting Walker property in 2019, so the Willey property is now surrounded by conserved land.

The Willey Property is located within the headwater wetlands of the ecologically important Lubberland Creek, which flows into Great Bay. The property is mostly underwater, as beaver activity along the entire length of Lubberland Creek has created a diverse wetland system along its stream corridor consisting of large and shallow open water ponds, mossy shorelines, and grassy and scrub-shrub marshes. The property's most significant value is as wildlife habitat.

There are no trails or other amenities on the Willey Property; however, it is close to the Sweet Trail.
