Human Rights Commission

The Human Rights Commission was created through Town Council adoption on June 3, 2013, of Resolution #2013-14.  The established Durham Human Rights Commission consisted of the Council Chair, Administrator, and Business Manager.  On June 17, 2017, the Durham Human Rights Commission adopted bylaws outlining the Commission’s purpose (affirmed by the Town Council).  On January 19, 2024 the HRC voted to amend the by-laws in order to update its purpose statement as follows:

Affirming the Town of Durham as a Welcoming Community That Embraces all People and Their Inherent Inalienable Right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, a Premise Fundamental to Our Nation
