Katherine Bubar - Town Council Candidate

The Town of Durham New Hampshire

KATHERINE (KATHY) BUBAR - Town Council
42 Dover Road

Education:  MSW, JD

Occupation:  Retired

Years as Durham Resident:  12

Previous Service on Governmental/Community/Civic Boards, Commissions, Committees, or Organizations:
I have served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for the past 3 years and am currently the Secretary of that Board.

Reason for Interest in Running for Elected Office:
Durham is in the midst of tremendous growth and development that will define our town for many years to come.  The issues that primarily concern me include managing the growth of our downtown area in a way that increases our tax base while preserving the essential character of the downtown area, protecting our water supply and appropriately managing waste water, protecting farmland and open space, and maintaining a productive working relationship with the University regarding all of the services that the town and the University share, including the pool.  My experience on the ZBA has introduced me to the challenges Durham faces today and that experience and my professional background have prepared me to be a productive member of the Town Council.

Additional Background Information:
My background is in public interest law and social work.  My legal practice has included employment law and education law.  I have also had the opportunity to run not for profit social service agencies.  The combination of these experiences has taught me to listen carefully to all sides of an issue and then to endeavor to make the best possible decision within the constraints of the various applicable laws and regulations.  I am now fully retired, so I have ample time to devote to Council issues and look forward to serving the residents of Durham.
