It emphasized looking at "how areas in a community look and feel based on context." This is a powerful concept and it would behoove the town to incorporate this thinking now, even thought the chapter hasn't been approved. We have two buildings in town that underscore the value of this approach. Look at how intrusive the 9-11 Madbury Road building is, and how it opened the door for more buildings to dwarf their neighbors creating visual discord. On the other hand, the Harmony Homes assisted living complex on Route 4 snuggled itself into its space and is very unobtrusive, although it took some changes to meet this goal. I am in opposition of the four and five storied buildings presently in the current Riverwoods development plan on 108. I feel that no building that abuts farm land should be allowed to be that much higher than the highest buildings around it; a reference to the context it is sited in. Development in Durham creeps further and further into the agricultural areas of the town. This slow creep is very destructive in so many ways: the sense of place and visual soul of the town, loss of farm land, and precedent setting to name a few. I am hopeful that we can get this latest development right. Sincerely, Carol Tuveson 11 Watson Road
