Dear Mr Behrendt,
„Mad“  King Ludwig of Bavaria built his famous castle atop a very high mountain 
for all to see from afar. I came away from the meeting on Wednesday with the 
impression that the very handsome complex envisioned for the “entrance “to 
Durham needed to be camouflaged as much as possible with high vegetation. 
Why not proudly display this residence of us older folks in a town that basically is 
dominated by the young students? For better or for worse, the impact on town 
life by RiverWoods  residents will be comparatively  minimal, so  that 
their  residence building need  not be under minute scrutiny. 
On the other hand, the comment made by one future resident, that the view from 
inside to the outdoors deserves consideration. Traffic from both Rte. 108 and Rte. 
4  will be an unavoidable factor, and anything that can screen it somewhat should 
be done.
I applaud the team of presenters for their willingness and patience to 
accommodate the needs of the town while taking great care to uphold their real 
mission: Making a meaningful communal life possible in the stimulating 
environment of Durham.
