As we understand it, the intention of the amendments is to remove “mixed use with residential” from "conditional use" to “not permitted” in the Central Business District; and to allow “mixed use with elderly housing” as a new “conditional use.” These changes make sense to us. Recent development has brought a significant increase of the student population into the center of our town. We feel that any further increase in the student population in our town center will alter its character permanently. So, at this point, it seems wise to take measures to promote a diversity of business and residential uses in our community. In that sense it seems prudent and timely to halt further increases in student housing in that part of our town, and instead to allow other, diverse, uses. We support the zoning amendments that are being considered. Thank you for considering our opinion. Mark and Jean McPeak 13 Mill Road Durham
