Karen, We are unable to be at the meeting this week about the redevelopment plan, but would like to submit this letter to the Planning Board. As Abutters we want to put forward our objections to a few parts of the plan. Thank you, Jean and Mark McPeak, owners at 13 Mill Rd, #12. To the Planning Board: Yet more student housing? Really? It's difficult to believe these won't lie vacant in the years to come. As members of the Brookside Common Over-55 neighborhood just over the brook from the proposed redevelopment plan, we strongly object to this section of the proposal. Less objection would be to workforce or married graduate student housing, but the idea of still more youngsters in the only downtown we have leaves us shaking our grey heads! The balance and diversity that sort of exists now will seriously tilt that arc. The lovely brook has been completely ignored in the plan and it could easily be a beautification project that would enhance the area and still maintain the green barrier between the proposed asphalt and Brookside Common. One of our more environmentally knowledgeable members has already offered his professional ideas and opinions for a more sustainable and attractive redevelopment. Surely some brainstorming would result in a more sensible plan for this significant place in our village. But more student housing for downtown? Let's not. Sincerely wishing a rethink on this proposal, Mark and Jean McPeak - Brookside Commons owners.
