As the owner of a solar electric and solar hot water system on 12 Thompson Lane, I firmly believe that such systems reduce the overall cost of meeting peak demands on our electric grid, create high paying local jobs, and retain energy dollars in the state and our national borders. Perhaps most importantly, these systems — despite the embedded energy required for their manufacture — contribute to a net reduction of emissions of pollutants known to contribute to climate change. I appreciate the efforts of the planning board and you to encourage energy efficiency, secure solar production rights, and believe this amendment reflects the often expressed desire of majorities responding to town forums and surveys to make our town a leader in responsible growth and sustainability. Thank you so much for considering this, and a special thanks to Councilor Mower for initiating this amendment and for her many other contributions in this area. Best wishes, Charlie Forcey Charlie Forcey 12 Thompson Lane Durham, NH 03824 603-781-1189
