Parks and Recreation Committee

Join us at one of our meetings, traditionally held the 4th Tuesday of the month in the Town Council Chambers at the Durham Town Hall, 8 Newmarket Road.

We extend an open invitation to all Durham residents -- bring your ideas, come to our meetings, and check out our events and classes. We'd love for you to join us in making Durham Parks and Recreation the best it can be.

The Parks and Recreation Committee's Vision:  A broad range of outdoor and indoor recreational activities shall be available to town residents of all ages, abilities, and interests.  Residents can count on events which bring the community together, and useful parks to be proud of.  Residents are welcome to volunteer and/or participate in Parks & Recreation through the committee and the director who are open and accessible, organized, and fair minded.

The purpose of the Parks and Recreation Committee is to advise on policies; provide recommendations on needed parks and recreation programs; plan, maintain and develop recreation facilities as appropriate on Town properties, parks and open areas to meet future needs as the Town grows.  The Parks and Recreation Committee strives to strengthen the community through an array of recreational opportunities while celebrating Durham's history and natural setting.

Our Mission:  Durham Parks and Recreation, its Director and Committee, strive to offer a wide range of quality programs, parks, and facilities that encourage all community members to participate in healthy, fun, and enriching activities. Together, they celebrate the essential role public recreation plays in fostering a cohesive and vibrant community.
