Anyone desiring to be married in New
Hampshire, resident or not, may go to any New Hampshire Town/City
Clerk’s office to apply for a marriage license. Identification
to verify you are of legal age to be married in New Hampshire will
be requested (you must be at least 18 years old or 16 with parental
permission).
If you have been married before, you must show proof of how the
last marriage ended-- certified copy of a death certificate, divorce
decree or annulment. The document must have a raised seal.
The application requests general information about the bride and
groom including their parent’s names and where they were born.
For statistical purposes you will be asked your race, ancestry and
level of education.
The license is valid for 90 days from filing and is not subject
to a waiting period. If the license expires before the wedding is
performed, you must apply for a second license. The license fee
is $45. If a certified copy is desired there is an additional fee
of $12. The fee(s) may be paid in cash or by check. Both the bride
and groom must be present to sign the license before it can be issued.
