Assistant Chief Jason Cleary

Jason Cleary has served as the Division Chief of Fire Prevention until 2009 when he accepted the transition to Assistant Chief of the Department. Previous to Durham, Jason served as a Lieutenant (primarily assigned to Ladder # 2) for the past 9 years. He has previously worked for fire departments in Salem, NH (career), Blacksburg, Virginia (volunteer), Waterville, Maine (paid-on-call), and Somerville MA (Auxiliary), beginning his career with the Boy Scout Fire Explorers in Reading, MA. He has also worked as a full-time dispatcher & police patrol officer (Blacksburg, VA) and campus police sergeant (Brandeis University). Jason spent three years working for a private EMS service in the metro-Boston area as well.

 

He holds associate degrees in both criminal justice and forensic science. His certifications include: Fire Inspector I & II, Firefighter III, Haz Mat Technician, Shipboard Firefighting Technician, Company Officer I & II, EMS Instructor/Coordinator, and NH Fire Instructor. He is also a Nationally Registered Paramedic.

 

When not at work, he resides in Somersworth with his wife Teresa and their daughter Erin. He enjoys playing music (bass guitar, saxophone, bodhran) and collecting antique firefighting memorabilia.
