Durham Parking F.A.Q.

PARKING TICKET APPEALS

I got a ticket that I don’t think I deserved. What can I do about it?
The Durham Police Department has an appeal form that can be downloaded from the Town website at http://ci.durham.nh.us. That same form can be picked up at the Durham Police Department during normal business hours, Monday – Friday, or, you can send an appeal as an e-mail letter to police@ci.durham.nh.us. In addition, you can send a letter with your parking ticket to the:

Durham Police Department
86 Dover Road
Durham, NH 03824

Each appeal should include your street address so that we can respond to you in writing as quickly as possible. If you have been given a ticket on the University of New Hampshire campus, you must make your appeal to UNH Parking Services. UNH Parking Services can be reached at (603) 862-1010 or go to their website at http://www.unh.edu/transportation.

If I don’t like the appeal decision, can I go to court?
Yes. Notify the Durham Police Department in writing that you are unsatisfied with the appeal decision. A summons will be issued to the Dover District Court so that you can make your appeal there. All decisions of the Court are final.

PARKING AT UNH

All parking on the campus of the University of New Hampshire is regulated by UNH Parking Services and NOT the Town of Durham. Please contact UNH Parking Services at (603) 862-1010 to learn more or go to their website at http://www.unh.edu/transportation.

PARKING AT MILL ROAD PLAZA

The Town of Durham does not regulate parking in the Mill Road Plaza. However, the Durham Police Department will issue parking tickets for fire lane violations and for vehicles parked in handicap accessible spots without a permit.

The Mill Road Plaza parking area is a privately owned lot and is open only to those people that are actively shopping in any Mill Road Plaza business or those that have been issued permits by the property manager. There are no exceptions.

Parking regulations have been established for the Mill Road Plaza parking lot by the property owners/management and have been posted in that private lot. The property owners/management have vehicles towed without warning for violations of those regulations.

Any questions about the parking regulations at the Mill Road Plaza or vehicles having been towed from that lot should be directed to Mr. Dan Sheehan of Colonial Durham Associates at (603) 868-7000.
